What Is An MP3 ? How Do I Play MP3s ? Where Do I Get MP3s ?

.

What is an Mp3?

MP3s are simply compressed recordings.  You can store many MP3s on your computer because a 4 minute song takes up only about 4 MB of space!

You can create your own personal CDs by downloading MP3s from the internet.  With the advent of Broadband, it’s now possible to download the exact music you require without taking up a great deal of time or space on your computer.

How do I play Mp3s?

MP3s can be played on most of the popular computer players including Windows Media Player, Real Player and Quick Time Player.  If you don’t have any of these programs, you can simply download one from the internet in just a few minutes.  An MP3 player decodes the compressed information into an uncompressed format, enabling music to be played on your computer speakers.  These days you can even play your MP3s on portable devices like the well-known iPod.

Where do I get Mp3s?

There are two main ways that you can access MP3s.  You can download them or “rip” them.  Ripping allows you to directly copy files from your CDs to MP3s at great speed.  You don’t have to wait the usual time it takes for a CD to play!  There are a number of downloadable rippers available on the net, including using Windows Media Player.

Another way of getting MP3s is to download them from the internet or through a system called File Sharing.  There are many different places you can go on the net to download the files of your choice.

Please be aware that downloading files
through free file sharing sites is illegal
as it breaches music copyright laws.
